Finding Mr. or Mrs. Right

Sometimes it seems as if half of Charleston’s population are Real Estate agents.  How to choose? Yes, you can eliminate that woman you always overhear gossiping at your local bar and the pushy neighbor you inevitably see every time you take your dog out, but how do you go about sifting through the thousands of other agents? Below are a couple useful tips to help you decide.

Smith Spencer helped facilitate the sale and purchase of 2 houses for me. They always took the time to explain everything and worked tirelessly to get the best possible outcome. I continue to recommend them to everyone looking for a great agent.”  -Austin Dandridge

Reasons NOT to choose an agent

  • Obligation. The agent that sold you the house you are now selling always sends you a Christmas card. You were not too pleased with their service during or after the sale - you owe them nothing!
  • Personal relationship. We all know you don’t want business to interfere with those you care about most. Exception: they are a badass and everyone knows it.
  • An agent nags you. Every time you see this cheesy individual they bring up using them as your agent and it makes you uncomfortable.
  • You see their face everywhere. Billboards, park benches, commercials, print ads – how can they give you the attention you need when they are so busy playing Hollywood?

Reasons TO choose an agent

  • Experience. They have been a Realtor for years and have a keen sense of what’s happening in the local market.
  • Trust. You know this person has your best interest at heart and isn’t focused on just making a sale. They genuinely care about you and your family.
  • Compatibility. Do you enjoy spending time with this person? Could you be friends with them? Do you have common interests/hobbies? This is the agent who is going to best guide you in the right direction.
