YOU NEVER FORGET YOUR FIRST TIME

Ok, so you are young and broke. Did you know you can probably still buy a house? Mom and Dad are passing the torch to two trusted advisors that will cheer you on and help you do what is truly best for you and your future, even after closing.

At least one year before you are thinking of buying a home you need to make two new besties: a local Realtor to educate you and help you make the best choice for your future, and a Lender to give you money.

Ask your home-owning friends for recommendations, collect a few names and interview them in person. Ask yourself: Do you enjoy being with and talking to this person? Do you trust them? Do they seem to have a strong grasp of the local market and bring up points you’ve never considered before? Do they often help folks like yourself? If you answered yes to ALL of these, you found your pro!

Smith Spencer is professional, shrewd and totally customer focused. They assisted us in the purchase of our first home in Charleston and we didn’t even consider using anyone else when looking to purchase an income property.”   -Janice Brooks

New Buyer Checklist

  • Ask your Realtor to recommend some Lenders
  • Get pre-qualified
  • Keep your finances in shape. No Ferrari until after closing!
  • Don't be afraid to max out on what you can afford if interest rates are low
  • Consider all angles fixer-uppers...they are not as appealing as you think!
  • Make a long-term plan. Single? No kids? Enjoy! But factor in the future. Circumstances change quickly: You could be a parent of triplets this time next year (based on actual events) so consider space and schools.
